Associate Director (India)

In alignment with our mission to improve the lives of billions of farmed fish, Fish Welfare Initiative is working to transition fish farming practices in India through farmer, corporate and governmental avenues.

 

This work is ambitious and challenging, and to do it we need a high-performing team. For this role, we’re looking for someone who can help lead our Indian team—someone who is an experienced strategist, manager, and project executor.

Note: We are only accepting Indian nationals or people living in India for this position.

Who We Are 

Fish Welfare Initiative (FWI) is a startup organization whose mission is to improve the welfare of fish as much as possible. We focus specifically on farmed fish, or fish raised in aquaculture.

We collaborate with corporations, governments and producers to improve animal welfare standards in aquaculture. We believe that this is the right thing for fish, farmers and consumers.

How You Will Make a Difference

The following will be the core responsibilities of the Associate Director:

  • Oversee our corporate outreach work.

  • Manage 1-3 members of the team.

  • Assist in setting and oversee the completion of our annual and quarterly objectives and key results.

  • Carry out any other duties assigned to you by the Managing Director.

Qualifications

Required Criteria

You must meet all of these in order to be eligible for this position:

  • At least 2 years of experience leading projects in the farm animal protection sector.

  • At least 2 years of experience managing a team. 

  • Exceptional English communication, self-management and analytical skills.

  • Comfort with high-pressure negotiations and in a high-energy work environment.

  • Willing to relocate to Vijayawada and travel regularly.

  • Demonstrated commitment to improving the lives of animals.

What Would Be Nice to Have

We encourage you to apply even if you only meet some of these:

  • ​Masters in Social Science or Environmental Sciences or allied areas or BA LLB. 

  • A good understanding of food systems or policy experience.

  • Ability to speak Telugu & Hindi.  

  • Willing to live at least 6 months of the year in Vijayawada.

The Fine Print

  • Location: Preferred that at least 6 months of the year be spent at the FWI office in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. We may consider fully remote work for exceptional applicants.

  • Position Status: Full-time.

  • Benefits: Health insurance, flexible hours, startup atmosphere.

  • Start Date: ASAP, with some flexibility.

  • Pay: Rs. 90,000 to 1,30,000 per month, depending on need and experience.
